By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr.  23: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that all political parties should collaborate in advancing the nation’s development and delivering essential services to the people.

Prime Minister Prachanda, speaking at the CPN-UML’s event commemorating the 75th anniversary of Nepal’s Communist Party, underscored the importance of political parties uniting and embracing socialism in accordance with the constitutional principles.

“Whatever political achievements we have made, they have all been attained through political understanding and unity. But when the level of understanding between us diminishes, we all become weakened,” Prime Minister Prachanda remarked.

“We have made significant strides through agreements, but when discord and animosity arises, it jeopardizes the well-being of the Nepali people. Hence, I urge all political parties to accept today as a new beginning, fostering understanding and consensus among us,” he appealed.

Stating that the establishment of the federal democratic republic was a collective effort involving communists from diverse streams, the Nepali Congress, and other parties, he said institutionalising change was possible only in an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual understanding among the parties.

Prime Minister Prachanda highlighted the positive contributions of all political parties in bolstering democracy and underscored the necessity for their collective unity to realize the aspirations of social justice and prosperity.

He emphasized that all political parties should acknowledge each other's contributions and demonstrate their dedication to serving the nation and its people by addressing any shortcomings within their respective spheres.

“Let’s review the commendable work accomplished and also take note of things needing improvement,” said Prime Minister Prachanda.

“Let’s commit to fostering more progressive ideas in the days ahead and stand with determination in support of the people and the nation,” he added.

Likewise, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli said that there was a need for cooperation between communist parties over unity in the prevailing circumstances. Oli said if the Communist Party unified at present, it might naturally give rise to questions about why it split in the past.

Referring to Prime Minister Prachanda’s statement, who is also the chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre), advocating for communist parties to progress through cooperation, Oli remarked, “Now, we are drawing closer through cooperation.”

“Through cooperation, we can move forward and gradually reach the path of unity. We can reach that point, but let’s not unite now. If we appeal to all to unite? The question will arise why we split,” he added.

Oli noted that an immediate unity between the communist parties might not ensure long-term sustainability.

“The patriotic forces, those committed to national power and sovereignty, and individuals who are in favour of the country, sovereign power, country’s independence, freedom, territorial integrity, national interest and self-respect should unite and move forward together,” he added.

Similarly, speaking at the same event, President of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba underscored the need to find the perpetrator responsible for the death of the late communist leader Madan Bhandari and urged for initiatives to be taken in that regard.

He questioned why the perpetrator of Bhandari’s death remained unidentified, emphasizing that justice has not yet been served in finding the culprit.

He questioned why, despite serving two terms as president and repeatedly leading governments, the UML didn't make efforts to uncover the truth behind the mysterious death.

President Deuba reiterated that the NC would extend its support in this endeavour.

“Instead of criticizing Nepali Congress, focus on uncovering the perpetrator of Madan Bhandari's murder,” he urged.

President Deuba also reaffirmed that the Nepali Congress had consistently embraced the policy of dialogue, consensus, and cooperation among the nation's political parties on crucial issues, expressing the party’s commitment to its continuation.

Similarly, former President Bidya Devi Bhandari urged for a thorough review of the factors contributing to frequent divisions within Nepal’s communist parties. She highlighted that amidst celebrating the diamond jubilee of the communist movement, it’s crucial to conduct a comprehensive review of the entire movement.

Meanwhile, on the occasion the UML presented ‘Republic Pride Honour’ to former President Bhandari. The National Congress Representatives Council meeting of the UML that concluded on Sunday decided to honour Bhandari with the title. She is the former Vice Chair of the party.
