KATHMANDU: Nisarga Batika School’s Anushna Gautam and Nightingale International School’s Saurya Shrestha emerged proud winners of the international edition of the Wild Wisdom Quiz (WWQ) 2020, battling it out among eight international finalists from four countries – Colombia, India, Hong Kong, and Nepal.
Hosted and organised by WWF India, the quiz was held on Zoom with the theme ‘Reimagining Our Planet’, states a press release issued by WWF Nepal. All questions and contents were derived from the popular Netflix, WWF and Silverback Films production, “Our Planet”.
Talking about their experience winner Anushna Gautam said, “Thank you for a great experience, we are very excited for this victory”, while the other winner Saurya Shrestha said, “We are very excited to be able to bring home the title for the first time!”
“We’re extremely proud of our young environmentalists for showing such intellect, perseverance and gusto at the international stage and finally bringing home the title. This is further proof that our young minds have far reaching, global potential and must keep striving for greater heights,” said Dr Ghana S Gurung, Country Representative, WWF Nepal.
Now in its fourth edition, WWF Nepal initially introduced the Wild Wisdom Quiz (WWQ) in Nepal in 2017. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Nepal edition of the quiz was held digitally for the first time ever this year, reaching out to 100 schools and 200 participants, across seven districts. “Our finalists battled it out in three domestic rounds and over 50 national semi-finalists to make it to the international round, before finally bringing home the gold at the international stage,” stated WWF Nepal.
Initiated by WWF India in 2008, the Wild Wisdom Quiz is now in its twelfth year and is considered to be Asia’s biggest wildlife quiz. The quiz is aimed at raising awareness regarding biodiversity and wildlife conservation among the younger generation, through participatory and interactive means.
