Yushu-Nepal Freight Route Comes into Operation

SATV, 06 August 2025, Kathmandu: On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China, the Nepali delegation remained engaged in various activities throughout the second day of the ongoing Himalayan Cross-Border Trade and Cultural Exchange Program in Yushu city of Qinghai Province, China.

The delegation from Nepal, led by former Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and President of the Nepal Olympic Committee, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, participated in a special seminar focused on potential economic and trade cooperation between Yushu and Nepal. During the seminar, both sides expressed their willingness for mutual collaboration and recalled each other's support during difficult times, expressing gratitude for one another.

Following the seminar, the Nepali team visited a factory in Yushu that produces traditional cultural garments using raw materials imported from Nepal. During the visit, the Nepali side openly appreciated the initiative.

On the second day, three trucks carrying goods from Yushu departed for Nepal, marking the beginning of the Yushu-Nepal transport route. Representatives from across the Yushu region, along with the Nepali delegation, had the opportunity to witness and celebrate the inauguration of this new trade route.

Speaking at the launch event of the Yushu-Nepal transport service, former minister Jeevan Ram Shrestha described it as a historic achievement. He emphasized the need for more such exchanges in the near future. He expressed excitement at witnessing the local government's dedication to its work and strongly stated that the special bond between Nepal and Yushu will continue to thrive.

Addressing the event, President of the Yushu Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Niga, expressed his deep affection for Nepal and hope for robust economic cooperation in the days ahead. Delivering his speech in Nepali, he shared his personal experiences of living in Nepal for a long time and mentioned that many of his current employees are Nepali. He expressed his desire for the cherished Nepal-China relationship to endure for generations.

According to organizers and participants, the program served as a milestone for beautiful collaboration. They expressed confidence that today’s successful launch of the transport route marks just the beginning, and the road-based trade between Yushu and Nepal will continue uninterrupted. Local governments believe that such leadership initiatives will further strengthen the friendly ties between Nepal and China.
