Ashar 15: National Paddy Day
South Asia Network TV National Paddy Day is being celebrated as an agricultural festival in Nepal for centuries that symbolizes the first planting of the crop (rice-plant). It is mostly popular among farmers of Nepal, on ashar 15 they plant new seedlings of rice crop of the year. It is known as Ashar 15 - the day when the crop planting season officially begins. People celebrate this festival by eating beaten rice with yoghurt (Dahi Chiura).
In 2062 BS Nepal’s government has declared Ashar 15 as National Paddy Day, to encourage farmers and celebrate the crop planting festival.
People visit the wet and muddy fields and relish the experience of rice plantation. Women are involved in planting the rice plant and men plow the field, they sing and dance, splash mud to each other and they get dirty while having fun and getting the work done.
