The police have recovered 119 kg of drugs over the past 48 hours, the Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has said.
The commissioner took to social media platform Twitter to announce that the police seized 119 packets of narcotic drugs suspected to be heroin. Out of these, 28 packets were seized on Sunday night. The total weight of the packets is 119 kg, he said.
The CP said the drugs seized on Sunday night were recovered from a taxi driving on a Male' City street. The taxi was stopped near Yellow Breeze shop on Buruzu Magu, and the 28 packets and a backpack were seized in the operation, he said. Each packet weighed one kilogram, he added.
The police have reinforced their drug operations over the past few weeks. While several drug consumption rooms were raided and closed, police have been stationed near these locations.
