President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih states the main reason former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyom’s administration failed is because he forgot about those who helped him secure the presidency and coalition partners.

Speaking at a campaign event in R. Dhuvaafaru on Wednesday night, President Solih said although the people bestowed powers to an administration between 2013 and 2018, they remain oblivious to how things unfolded during the administration.

“The most important factor is forgetting how they came to power,” the president said while listing reasons why the previous administration had failed.

President Solih stressed that the previous administration sidelined its coalition partners who helped them come to power in an attempt to rule independently.

The second reason why the previous administration failed, as per the president, was because they cheated the state’s funds. He added that this was a huge obstruction in the pursuit of development.

“This is why they were unable to accomplish anything. This how things will unfold if they were given the chance again,” he said.

President Solih also cited the attempt to rule while the country was drowning in political instability as another reason why Yameen’s administration had failed.

As an example, he pointed out the imprisonment of any politician whom the administration believed was on a path of flourishing.

“Children, fathers, and even grandfathers were jailed,” he added.

President Solih, emphasizing there was no benefit of this authoritativeness today, said gaining power and leading is not something that can be done whenever desired. In this regard, he said such power is bestowed by the Almighty Allah.

In tonight’s campaign event, President Solih again extended an invitation to the leaders of the current administration’s coalition partners to join hands for the upcoming election.

He said there was no point in working to make a second round happen.

“Choose logic instead of anger,” he also said.

President Solih, underscoring he faced the 2018’s election with a ‘Jazeera’ manifesto, said pledges on the manifesto are still being fulfilled at present.

“You can see this by looking at Dhuvaafaru alone,” he said while promising to fulfill the new pledges being made.

He noted one of the biggest arguments pressed by opponent candidates as to how he would fulfill his pledges.

On that matter, he said the record of how the current administration handled the pledges is clearly visible.
