The government approved a proposal for the acquisition of about 219.72 hectares of land in the Siyambalanduwa Divisional Secretariat Division of the Moneragala District by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority for a 100 MW solar energy project.
The decision was announced at the weekly meeting held to convey Cabinet decisions held today by Cabinet spokesman and Minister Bandula Gunawardana.
It has been decided that the matter should be discussed with the Tourism and Lands Ministry, and then the related information to be submitted to the Cabinet, the Minister said.
However, the Cabinet has approved the proposal by the Power and Energy Minister on the recommendation of the Tourism and Lands Ministry to lease the relevant extent of land on a long-term lease basis for a period of 25 years to the Sustainable Energy Authority, with relevant provisions to enable sub-leasing to a selected renewable energy developer.
