It is expected that the divergence in dollar prices will continue until September
Despite the official announcement by top bank executives, the price of the dollar will not be unified across all cases starting from next July. It is expected that the difference in dollar prices will continue until September.
This decision was made during an online meeting between Bangladesh Foreign Exchange Dealers Association (BAFEDA), an organization representing banks involved in foreign currency transactions, and Association of Bankers Bangladesh (ABB), an organization comprising top bank executives, on Monday.
In the case of export earnings, the dollar price has been raised by 50 paisa to Tk107.50. This decision was reportedly taken based on the advice of Bangladesh Bank.
Regarding this matter, ABB chairman and managing director of BRAC Bank, Salim RF Hossain, stated: "According to the monetary policy, the dollar will have multiple prices until next September. As a result, the price of the dollar has been increased by 50 paisa for export earnings. However, for other cases, the price will remain unchanged."
It has been revealed that exporters will receive Tk107.50 per dollar against their export income next month. For expatriate income, the dollar rate will remain at the current rate of Tk108.50. Additionally, the interbank rate for dollar will not exceed Tk109. Consequently, the import price of the dollar will be Tk109.
Meanwhile, the central bank continues to sell the dollar at Tk106. On Monday, they sold $86 million from their foreign exchange reserves to banks.
