Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of the Legal and Media Wing of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), said that there is no chance of any kind of chaos ahead of upcoming national polls.
He said this in response to questions from journalists at a press conference organized at RAB's media centre in Karwan Bazar in the capital on Tuesday.
With the elections ahead, the Election Commission fears that the clanging of weapons may increase.
When asked about RAB's preparation, Khandaker Moin said, RAB's aim is to suppress weapons, militants, drugs and terrorism. “It is not just about the elections.”
He added: “Whenever we get information, we get information about people carrying or using illegal weapons, and we work in all parts of the country. Six weapons were recovered from Jessore last week. All in all, we are bringing those involved under the law no matter there is an election or not.”
However, some individuals or groups feel that they need muscle power as well as public support to focus on elections, the RAB official said.
“They may attempt to use weapons through terrorists. However, our detectives are working on this matter,” he said.
When asked about the release of individuals identified as terrorists through bail, he said: "We do not directly get information about the terrorists being released on bail. They have court constables, in many cases police headquarters get information from jail authorities or prison police.”
He said these information should be shared by intelligence agencies and law enforcement agencies, and only then RAB can take action regarding the matter.
“But I try to keep it under my watch. We are monitoring whether the terrorists commit crimes again after coming out on bail,” he said.
He added that RAB is also keeping an eye on locations where terrorists activities are reported.
