Colombo, Dec. 13-- The government-owned fertilizer companies were advised to declare the maximum price at which MOP fertilizer (Muriate of Potash) can be sold as Rs. 9,000.

This was following a review discussion in this regard yesterday with the participation of Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.
 
During the discussions, it was revealed that 27,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer are currently available to the two government-owned fertilizer companies, and urea fertilizer has also been given to all Agrarian Service Centres.

Therefore, arrangements have been made to sell a bag of urea fertilizer and MOP fertilizer at Rs. 9000 each and Minister Amaraweera advised the National Fertilizer Secretariat Director, Dr. Jagath Perera to declare the maximum retail price for MOP fertilizer.

In addition to the two fertilizer companies, it has been reported that farmers are buying more of the high-quality organic fertilizers sold by the private sector this Maha season.

While stating that encouraging farmers to use high-quality organic fertilizers is a very good trend, the Minister also mentioned that it is essential to apply organic fertilizers as well as chemical fertilizers according to a certain percentage for successful harvests.
