Nepalgunj, Dec. 23: A mobile application developed by 22-year-old Karna Bahadur Budha Chhetri has sold for over Rs. 7 million.
Chhetri, who lives in Bansgadhi Municipality-5, Bardiya, and has a diploma in computer engineering from the Nepalgunj Technical College, made an app called ‘Pickup Lines.’ And, according to his college, the Israeli company Rounds AI Ltd. purchased it for US$ 53,000.
Talking to The Rising Nepal, Chhetri said that his app contained a collection of pickup lines that would help people have sweet, fun and memorable conversations with their friends and family members.
He said that the app would run on all versions of Android above
Android 5.1 and informed that he had uploaded the app to the Google Play Store in November of last year. Since then, it has been downloaded over 500,000 times, he said.
“The pickup lines in the app have been divided into cheesy, romantic, cute, funny and other categories. The users can easily copy the lines and paste them on social media chats, emails or text messages,” Chhetri said. “The app was attracting a lot of users from Africa and Europe and had started to make good money.”
Chhetri also informed that Rounds AI had made a previous offer to buy his app. But the money was too low. They later upped their offer and convinced him to sell.
Kishor Kumar Pandey, managing director of Nepalgunj Technical College, said that the entire college was extremely proud of Chhetri’s achievement and wished him further success in the future.
Meanwhile, the college’s Principal Chhining Lal Thapa Magar hoped that Chhetri would inspire other students as well.
To date, Chhetri has developed over a dozen apps and has uploaded them to Play Store under the name ‘Kaki Developers.’ Some of those apps have over 100,000 downloads.
Some of Chhetri’s most popular apps include ‘Class 9 Nepali Guide Book,’ ‘Class 8 Nepali Guide Book,’ ‘Nepali Byakaran’ and ‘Nepali Samaya Gyan Offline.’
