SATV, Bhotekoshi May 30: Chinese or standard Mandarin has become one of the world language in today’s date. It is the world's second most spoken language. When the modern education system in towns and cities have just entered the world language teaching and learning system, Jhirpu Secondary school in Bhotekoshi Rural municipality 04 had been teaching Chinese language to their students. This school of remote village in Nepal-China border had long understood the value of speaking multiple languages and stands out to be an illustration to other schools by being the first to teach Chinese language in the entire district.
Jhirpu School had become the first community school to teach Chinese language in Sindhupalchowk from students of grade 7 to 12. While even private schools aren't being able to regulate the teaching and learning of world languages besides english once or twice a week, it is amusing when this school from remote village of Nepal has been continuing the teaching of Chinese language on a daily basis.
In a general understanding, learning Chinese language can open significant opportunities for students around the globe when 13.8% of world's population speak it. But, Jhirpu carries a different story behind initiating the Mandarin learning in their school.

Mr. Angchiri Sherpa, Chairman of Jhirpu Secondary School Management Committee, shares with SATV his narrative, “I am a business person on the Chinese border but lack of Chinese language made it all difficult. Since I graduated from this school, I arranged for the students of this school to learn Chinese, for them to transcend these problems tomorrow.”

On the occasion of the 64th annual celebration and parents' day of Shree Jhirpu Secondary School, an interactive program on the educational situation and improvement of Bhotekoshi, he briefs on learning Chinese for boarder people being a wholesome benefit. "our school is on the Tatopani border. Learning Mandarin eases and succeeds business on Chinese border. Second, the numerous hydro projects are always searching translator in the companies. Similarly, students can easily apply for higher education in China.” Mr. Sherpa further adds, “In simple words, we are teaching them skill and extending them future opportunities while teaching Chinese as they are less likely to be unemployed and are more likely to find employment in both Nepal or China.”

Sowers Action Nepal, Nepal’s branch of social service organisation in Hong Kong has taken the responsibility of teaching Chinese to students in Jhirpu Secondary School. This non-profit organisation has also been providing with financial supports for mid day meals, named “Diwaa khaajaa” to the students from class 7-12 . The organisation believes, since China is a neighboring country, solve the day-to-day language barrieer for improving the relationship between the two local people also makes it necessary in this area.
