Finally, the news of missing tourists in the Khumbu area has stopped being heard. Before this, there are statistics of tourists disappearing in every season. Trek card distribution has been started in Khumbu region since last October, as the number of tourists going on FIT treks without a guide and going missing and dying due to not being able to find the route and geographical structure is increasing.
Trekking guides say that distribution of cards has helped in the safety of tourists. Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality has distributed trek cards for tourists and guides for the first time in Nepal. Khumbu region is one of the main tourist areas or trekking destinations of Nepal.Mingma Chiri Sherpa, chairman of the rural municipality, said that they have started distributing cards to tourists who are going on a trek for the Khumbu region including the Everest base camp area. President Sherpa says that this card, which will be distributed to every tourist and guide, has helped in the safety of tourists, tourism promotion and management.
Not only the safety of the tourists but also the number of tourists entering the Khumbu area will be ascertained, so the management of hotels and lodges will be easier.
At present, every tourist coming to Khumbu region for trekking must have a card. The received card has to be entered at the check points maintained by the rural municipality and Everest National Park.According to Sherpa, the chairman of the rural municipality, there is zero chance of tourists going missing as tourists who enter Khumbu have to enter every camp or hotel lodge.
Not only the safety of the tourists but also the number of tourists entering the Khumbu area will be ascertained, so the management of hotels and lodges will be easier. The duration of the card registered by tourists will be one month at most. According to Sherpa, the chairman of the rural municipality, the aim is to speed up the promotion of the tourist destination after returning to the country by sending an email with thanks and collecting suggestions.This will help to improve service quality. A system has been developed to inform the registered tourists through an email with the signature of the village head if new activities for further promotion of the destinations are started.
The card is distributed by keeping a record of the tourist's photo, passport and guide, contact number along with detailed details of the company. Now the registration has started at the tourist tax collection center Lukla. The registered tourist card is registered in three places namely Toktok and Namche of Ward No. 3. From this year, the rural municipality has started preparations for registration to other areas including Everest base camp.
