SATV Kathmandu Oct 26: Maafushi MP Hussain Riza Adam has resigned from his position as President of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and as a member of the commission.
Riza, who served as the Parliament’s representative on the JSC, submitted his resignation letter to the commission on Sunday. The JSC has confirmed the resignation but has not disclosed the reason behind his decision.
Riza’s resignation follows that of High Court Judge Mohamed Niyaz, who stepped down as Vice-President of the JSC earlier in the week. Niyaz’s position was subsequently filled by Yazmeed Mohamed, the member appointed to the commission by President Mohamed Muizzu.
The resignations come as the Supreme Court continues hearings on a constitutional amendment that would allow for the dismissal of two Supreme Court judges. The two judges were suspended shortly after Yazmeed’s appointment to the commission.
Prior to Yazmeed’s appointment, the President was represented on the JSC by lawyer Mohamed Sameer.
