
SATV, Lumbini, Mar. 19 - A welcome dinner program was held on Thursday evening in Lumbini on the occasion of the 3rd Lumbini International Peace Festival 2026. The event took place at Maya Garden Hotel and was attended by several distinguished guests, including Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Anil Kumar Sinha, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Maoming, President of the Nepal Olympic Committee Jeevan Ram Shrestha, and Vice Chairman of the Lumbini Development Trust Dr. Lharkyal Lama.

Speaking at the event, Minister Sinha described Lumbini as a global center of peace and a shared heritage of humanity. He noted that the site, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, continues to spread the message of Buddhism and peace worldwide, particularly through historical landmarks such as the Ashoka Pillar.

Chinese Ambassador Zhang Maoming highlighted the historical and cultural importance of Lumbini, emphasizing the shared values of peace and the longstanding friendship between Nepal and China. He stated that amid rising global instability and conflict, peace has become increasingly essential, adding that China remains committed to promoting peace, development, and cooperation.

Nepal Olympic Committee President Jeevan Ram Shrestha delivered the welcome remarks, extending a warm reception to Ambassador Zhang and wishing him a successful tenure. He described Lumbini as a common heritage of humanity, from where messages of peace, coexistence, and compassion have spread across the world.
The welcome dinner also served as a platform for interaction and networking among participants, fostering goodwill and friendship.
As part of the festival, several events have been scheduled, including a meditation session on March 20 from 7:00 AM to 8:40 AM, a Peace Concert on March 20 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, and the Lumbini International Peace Marathon on March 21 from 7:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Organizers said these programs aim to promote peace, unity, and international friendship.
