In the early spring of March, on the occasion of theTibetan New Year (Losar), we visited the second-generation Tibetan aristocrat"Tsedan Guman Shrestha" in Nepal. At first glance, I couldn't believethat Mr. Tsedan was 74 years old this year. He appeared in front of everyone ina light blue long-sleeved shirt and pure white pants. Say hello to each other -Tashi Dele! This is the most sincere greeting from Tibetan compatriots."Tashi" means "good luck" and "Dele" means"joy and happiness".

Mr. Tsedan hurriedly greeted us to sit down. Mr.Hou, the editor-in-chief of  South AsiaNetwork TV, first handed over a gift to express his heart. After some pleasantries, we expressed the purpose of this trip, and a simple interview began.

Ramila, host of South Asia Network TV, presided over the interview. Before the interview began, he wished the water rabbit in Tibeta happy new year. Tashi Dele! Speaking of Loshar, Mr. Tsedan mentioned that Loshar is the custom of the Tibetan Lunar New Year, and even the same ethnic group will have differences due to regional differences, so there are three different types of Loshar among the Tibetans. Namely Gyalpo Loshar, Sonam Loshar and Tamu Loshar. Since the Tibetan people do not celebrate birthdays, people usually regard Loshar as the birthday of the whole nation.

The host Ramila then asked about Mr. Tsedan's views on attending the event as a guest of the New Year's Reception hosted by the chinese embassy iin Nepal.

Previously, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal often organizedTibetan New Year receptions. In the past two years, due to the impact of the epidemic and for safety reasons, the embassy has not held large-scale activities including the Tibetan New Year. This year, the new ambassador ChenSong led the embassy and people from all walks of life to hold a grand Tibetan New Year reception in the embassy.

Mr. Tsedan expressed his thanks and replied:Thanksto this event, I spent the New Year with artists from all regions of Tibet and all overseas people living in Nepal, enjoying singing and dancing. At the sametime, Tsedan also said that in comparision to previous years, the group of people attending the Tibetan New Year reception this time is relatively small. But anyway, it was very fruitful, productive and a very good event for all ofus to share our thoughts with each other.

During the epidemic in the past two or three years, the embassy and the new ambassador Chen Song have always been very friendly. He facilitate us with not only medical support, but also financial support. And atthe same time he also provided me with the opportunity to meet Ambassador ChenSong. He also welcomed Ambassador Chen Song to Nepal. In addition, Tsedan also expressed his gratitude to the ambassador for hosting the reception on the occasion of Loshar.

When talking about how many Tibetans there are in Nepal and how their lives are, Tsedan replied that although he did not have the exact number, he would like to share some of what he has seen and heard: In the1960s, tens of thousands of Tibetans were scattered and living in variousregions of Nepal. A small number of people lived in Solukhumbu while mostchoosed to come to Kathmandu. There are also many people who lived on theborder with Tibet and speak the same language.

Some of us started out as handicrafts. By making rugs, carpets, quilts and all kinds of essentials. Thus began the trade.Gradually, business picked up and there was a good economy.

However, since Tibetans are not local citizens, theycannot work at any government level. People started going west because of thehigher income. "So far, I still don't have exact data on Tibetans living in Nepal. But I believe there are more than 10,000 to 15,000 people."Tsedan said.

In the past, only donkeys, yaks, and sheep were used as means of transportation. Tibet's development has made great achievements in recent years. He also expressed that many compatriots in Nepal also wants to goback, so that they can seek for better development and more convenient business. "It is human nature to seek a better life. "Tsedan said. Incontrast, Tibet's policies, economy, transportation and everything else are improving. So people want to move back to their land.

In addition, Tsedan said he runs a school with about700 students. The Chinese embassy also provides visits and support, providing students with the opportunity to study in China. Therefore, this relationship will make us more prosperous in business, life and other aspects.

At the same time, Tsedan said, "I have been asked many times to open a Chinese bank in Nepal." Although Nepal is avery small country, China and Nepal have good relations for thousands of years,so this will be helpful more people for effective business.

Finally, when the host asked Tsedan whether he hasany plan to return to Tibet or stay in Nepal, Tsedan replied: It is moredifficult to return to China during the epidemic. But has been invited back andwill run some businesses there. "Tibet is my motherland and my asset. Most importantly, we are given very good facilities there." At the same time,he also said that he has already started to do something and will carry it forward. As the first Tibetan to invest in Nepal, he wanted to go back and do something.

In addition Tsedan also said that "China'spolicy is based on peace and progress, no one wants war, and Chinese people are united everywhere. China towns around the world are models of unity."

After the interview, as we were leaving Tsedan suddenly asked us if we would like to eat and drink some otherday too, and asked us to sit for a while. And repeatedly told the servants to serve us the best Chinese tea, no sugar or milk. He knows very well that we in the Han nationality drink tea without sugar or milk. In Nepal, there is a habit of drinking milk tea, and Tibetans also have a culture of butter tea.

As the sun went down, our interview came to an end. What I can't forget for a long time is that Tsedan's mouth is full of appreciation for China's peace and unity.
