The map asserts that modern-day Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are one nation
Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi feels that the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh have been grossly insulted by the installation of an integral India map on the newly constructed Parliament Building of India.
The “Akhand India” or integral map asserts that modern-day Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are one nation.
Udichi President Professor Badiur Rahman and General Secretary Amit Ranjan Dey said that in this controversial map, apart from Bangladesh, several neighboring countries including Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Afghanistan have been shown as part of India's territory, reads a press release.
The statement highlights the ongoing neglect of the rich history and achievements of the subcontinent.
Through a Liberation War fought against Pakistan, an anti-British independence movement, driven by religious xenophobia, Bangladesh successfully attained independence.
Hence, showing Bangladesh as an integral part of the Indian state on the map is an international crime, reads the press release.
The current government of India has shown extreme irresponsibility by installing such a map in their parliament building, adds the press release.
The statement notes that the RSS and BJP, the leaders of the current Indian government, are dreaming of reuniting all the areas that India was made up of in ancient times.
In the modern era, where India recognizes the independence and sovereignty of all the neighboring states, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi believes that the idea of integrating these states into their own territory is a reflection of backward, feudal, and imperialist views.
Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi also stated that the map will not only worsen India's relations with neighboring countries but also lead to communal violence.
The president and general secretary of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi demanded the immediate removal of the map installed in the newly constructed parliament building of India.
The leaders of Udichi have also expressed their deep shock and concern as the Bangladesh government has not asked for any explanation in this regard so far.
