Kathmandu, Dec 4: Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Nepal hosted another Chinese cultural night event "Dunhuang Culture Global Connection - Entering Nepal" today, on December 4, 2023. The event was held for the exploration of art, culture, civilization, spirituality and history of Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes as an integration of Chinese civilization. The event intends to make Dunhuang's cultural connection in the global arena.
The scholars from Dunhuang Academy made their presentations in the event through online.
Along with Chinese and Nepalese delegates, the event was invited with children of multiple Confucius schools at the event for a specific reason. As ambassador clarifies, " we hope the students can fully appreciate the inclusiveness, feel the breadth and depth of Chinese culture to become a good ambassadors for the inheritance and development of the friendship between the two countries".
Pramila Devi Bajracharya, Secretary of Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Nepal, as a Chief guest of the event explained, "the protection and research efforts undertaken by the Dunhuang Academy are not just about safeguarding historical artifacts; they are a testament to the dedication and passion we must invest in preserving our cultural legacies".
Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, His Excellency, Chen Song relates Nepal-China past, present and future, "Silk road started before 2000 years ahead is the artery of civilization and bond of friendship across Himalayas. The "One belt, one road" initiative has today become the most extensive and largest cooperation platform in the world". Speaking about the future he explained, "the future of China-Nepal lies within youths with whom we are willing to work by providing scholarship to more outstanding students yearly".
Mr. Song Yanpeng, Deputy Director and Associate Research Librarian of Dunhuang Academic Data Center of Dunhuang Academy made an online presentation about Dunhuang heritages. The Mogao Caves created at 285 BC which consisted 492 caves, 2000 painted sculptures, 45,000 sq. m. murals with discovered 70,000 sculptures in 1900 was included in World Heritage site at 1987 AD.
The caves were commonly used by monks to live and meditate as well as was served as graveyard in the past.
The audience enjoyed the video presentation of Dunhuang heritages provided by Mr. Song which extensively described about Buddha, Buddhist sculptures, caves, meditation, arts and paintings.
Mr. Shi Lin, Member of Standing Committee of COC of Jiuquan City delightedly expressed that this event is a corridor for the development of Buddhism between two points and people.
The event ended with conveying of enormous amount of information and shared culture about Dunhoung to Nepal. It almost transported the viewers to the Dunhoung caves, history, culture and time in the past through the informative presentation of picturesqueplace places.
