The BNP called a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Rangpur on Sunday, demanding the government’s resignation, the release of BNP chief Khaleda Zia, the withdrawal of Tarique Rahman's case, and the release of Rangpur Metropolitan BNP Member Secretary Advocate Mahfuz Un-Nabi Don.
A statement signed by conveners and member secretaries of Rangpur City Jubo Dal, Swechchasebak Dal, and Chhatra Dal announced the hartal on Saturday at noon.
The shutdown will begin at 6am and end at 6pm.
They urged their party leaders and activists as well as the city dwellers to make the hartal successful.
On October 29, police arrested 14 BNP men including Advocate Mahfuz Un-Nabi Don from the BNP office premises in Rangpur.
The court sentenced five BNP leaders to 10 years in jail and fined them Tk10,000 each in a case filed over sabotage.
