"Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education" Workshop (Nepal and South Asia)

On April 9, 2023, in order to help the teaching departments and local Chinese teachers of Nepal and South Asia, understand the “Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education” and enhance its promotion and application in South Asia, The Nepal and South Asia Workshop on “Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education” hosted by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, Ministry of Education China and undertaken by Kathmandu University was successfully held in a combination of online and offline mode.

Experts and scholars in the field of Chinese education, local teachers and students from South Asian countries attending the workshop

The workshop was held in the form of key note lectures, teaching sharing, exchange seminars,etc. More than 100 people, including Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle, Registrar of Kathmandu University, experts and scholars in the field of Chinese education, local teachers and students from South Asian countries attended the workshop.

Prof. Dr. Ye Jun, East China Normal University,China, Associate Prof. Jannatun Naher, Dhaka University, Bangladesh, Asst.Prof. Rajiv Ranjit, PhD, Kathmandu University, Nepal, T.K. Asela Prabath Kumara, Senior Lecturer, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, Ms. Xie Nini, Manager, Chinese Test Center, China, Mr. Nishith Shah, Atlas Skilltech University, India, focused on the explanation, discussion and training of the Grade Standards and the corresponding HSK examination reform which enhanced the understanding of the Grade Standards and its popularization in classroom teaching among teachers in Nepal and South Asian countries.This promoted the connection and application of the Grade Standards with local standards, and further promoted the development of local Chinese teaching standards in Nepal and South Asian countries and developed a new generation of international Chinese teaching materials, courses and teaching resources.

Teacher Ranjit from Kathmandu University analyzed the application and feedback of the "Grade Standard" in Nepal, the HSK test situation, and made suggestions on the combination of Chinese teaching objectives in Nepal and the"Grade Standard".

Teacher Xie Nini from Chinese Test International took "Grade Standards" and HSK reform as the topic and analyzed the relationship between "Grade Standards" and HSK, the development process, design concept, test objects, forms and uses of the new HSK test level nine corresponding standards and in-depth analysis of the structure of the HSK reformed test paper.

The explanations, discussions and training carried out in the workshop around the "Grade Standards". The corresponding HSK test reforms have enhanced teachers' understanding of the "Grade Standards" and their popularization in classroom teaching in Nepal and South Asian countries and promoted the "Grade Standards". Further, the connection and application of local standards will promote the development of local Chinese teaching standards in Nepal and South Asian countries and the development of a new generation of international Chinese textbooks, courses and teaching resources.
