Charges them of misusing government funds by purchasing National Payment System at an unreasonably high cost of Rs250 million without necessary infrastructure in place.
KATHMANDU, Oct 2: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Monday filed a corruption case against nine people including sitting government secretary Madhu Kumar Marasini in the National Payment Gateway purchase case. Marasini is currently secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies.
The anti-graft body has accused them of damaging the government's property and misusing government funds by purchasing the system at Rs250 million without preparing the necessary infrastructure and approving an unreasonable high estimate for the system purchase.
The CIAA has also filed the case against the then chairperson at the National Information Technology Centre and the then Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Sanjay Sharma, the then executive director at the Centre Pranita Upadhyay, the then deputy director/executive director and currently Managing Director of Nepal Telecom Sunil Paudel, the then director of the centre Safal Shrestha and the then assistant director at the centre Ramesh Prasad Pokharel.
Likewise, the then account officers Nim Bahadur Oli and Ram Bahadur Budha and computer engineer Ram Sharan Gayak have also been charge-sheeted in the case.
The Commission filed the Rs230 million graft case against Sharma, Upadhyaya, Paudel, Budha, Pokharel, Gayak and Marasini.
Likewise, a Rs1.7 million corruption case has been filed against Shrestha and Rs8.9 million case against Oli.
