In response to allegations of sexual harassment involving a first-year female student, Dhaka University has relieved Md Nurul Islam, a professor at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research, of all academic duties.
The decision came at a Syndicate meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof ASM Maksud Kamal on Tuesday as a fact-finding committee formed to look into the allegation had found evidence supporting the allegation, according to media reports.
The Syndicate, serving as the university's highest decision-making body, then tasked the anti-sexual harassment cell with further investigation into the incident and submitting a report on it within three months.
The professor stands accused of calling the student to his room on November 11 and sexually assaulting her. The student of the institute later filed a written complaint with the VC about the matter.
