In separate incidents, three supporters of an independent candidate in Rajshahi-4 constituency were injured in attacks allegedly by supporters of the “boat” symbol in Bagmara upazila on Tuesday.
Quoting the victims, police said the supporters of independent candidate Enamul Haque conducted an election campaign at Bhabaniganj municipality area on Tuesday.
When Enamul went away after the campaign, two of his supporters — Ajit Kumar and Rajani — went to a tea stall at Paharpur village at 4pm.
They said that supporters of the “boat” symbol Mashiur Rahman and Mintu arrived and beat them with iron rods after dragging them out on the street, leaving them injured.
Meanwhile, Lutfur Rahman, another supporter of the independent candidate said that he was injured when supporters of Awami League beat him up mercilessly when he was hanging the poster of “scissor” symbol in the afternoon.
The injured were taken to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.
On information, independent candidate Enamul Haque visited the hospital and inquired about the health condition of the injured at night.
Arbind Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Bagmara police station, said: “No complaint has been lodged yet and those who were involved in the attacks, won’t be spared, whoever they are.”
