Kathmandu, Jan 14(SATV): This year, Chinese Embassy in Nepal in coordination with Nepal Tourism Board and Kathmandu Metropolitan City, has co-organised and planned more than ten events starting today, Jan 14, for the grand celebration of incoming Chinese New Year 2024 which falls on Feb 10 in Georgian calendar. According to Chinese calendar the "Rabbit Year" is ending to invite the "Dragon Year".
Meanwhile, the embassy has organised a month long series of events from Jan 14 to Feb 14, in order to help, all Chinese in Nepal who stay back at Nepal due to varieties of purpose, bring together and celebrate this traditional cultural Chinese festival, a Spring festival. The events would be organised in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Lumbini and other parts of the nation.
Chinese celebrate their new year in lunisolar Chinese calendar. It is also commonly and widely known as Spring festival which sums up as one of the greatest, traditional festival in China.
People prepare dumplings, stick couplets, meet relatives and friends, have New Year's Eve dinner, exchange blessings and good wishes in red envelopes and burst firecrackers to celebrate this festival in a traditional manner.
But, this festival has also gone through popularity across the globe. Though heavy number of Chinese return back to their hometown during this auspicious festival, Chinatowns are constructed in abroad to make those who couldn't return home, feel home in festivities. Chinatowns community hold pared for celebration, are decorated with lights, and people fly lanterns as a prayer to their loved ones. Further, these towns helps for cultural and people to people exchange allowing individuals to explore new domain of culture.
