Enjoy the digital art of Tibetan culture

(Welcome speech on the opening ceremony of International Digital Art Exhibition on Tibetan Cultural Heritage, November 10, 2017.)

Dear artists, delegates from China, media friends, ladies and gentlemen, Today the weather is so pleasant. And it is my great honor to stand in this beautiful garden to welcome you all. I am contended to see so many friends attending this program. Most of you are my old friends and some are absolutely new friends to me. Anyway, the main point is that we have gathered here today to bathe under the sunshine and to enjoy the digital art of Tibetan culture.

As we all know, Nepal and China’s Tibet region are deeply linked for ages and not strangers by their blood. Many friends sitting here today are familiar with the Tibetan culture since Kathmandu sees Tibet art performance, exhibition, and so on, few times every year.

This international exhibition, however, is a little bit different. The difference lies in the modern digital display technology, which is used for showing Tibet’s rich and unique heritage and cultural resources. In Tibet, there are many beautiful and mysterious districts like Nyingchi city, which had formally established the sister-city relations with Pokhara in 2008; like Ngari prefecture, namely Ali area, where the famous holy Mount Kailash is located.

These districts serve as the main line in the exhibition and their mystic beauty is decoded by intelligent navigation applications as well as photos, as static display.

As visitors, you will also experience Tibet’s charm in holographic technology. With this technology holograms modulate light to project the illusion of a three-dimensional shape-3D picture.

The most popular technology in this exhibition is Virtual Reality (VR). Inside the hall, there are more than 10 headsets. Technicians from China told me that once you put the headset on your head, realistic images, sounds and other sensations will be generated and you will feel as if you are truly in Tibet.

Today, there is no need of spending money to buy expensive air tickets and even without tiring journey, you can see charming sights of Tibet at this moment, in this place.

It is our technicians from China who gifted us this 1000-dollars visit. Credit goes to them of course. They deserve our big thanks. On the behalf of the organizers, Xinhua News Agency and China Mobile Tibet Company, I pay my respect to these 15 delegates from Shenzhen RealScene Technology, Xi’an Jiaotong University, and other organizations.

Before coming to Nepal, they have successfully proved their skills and professionalism in Russia and Thailand. They will continue to go to other countries to exhibit Tibetan art in the same way. That is why this exhibition is international.

My sincere thanks to everyone present at this august gathering. Your presence, your smiling face have shown that you love Xinhua News Agency, you love Tibet, you love Nepal, most importantly and you love this beautiful life!

Life is short art is long. Seize the day, seize the opportunity to visit the exhibition now.

Thank you and have a nice day!
