Vice President Faisal Naseem has reaffirmed the commitment of the Maldivian administration to the protection of the rights of Bangladeshi workers in the country.

He made the remark while addressing a function held by the Bangladesh High Commission at the Hotel Jen on Sunday to mark the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.

Speaking about the strong bonds between the two countries, Faisal emphasized the contributions of Bangladeshi expatriate workers to the socioeconomic development of Maldives.

“We remain steadfast in protecting the rights of Bangladeshi workers in the Maldives," he said.

Speaking about the founding of Bangladesh, Faisal highlighted the sacrifices made for Bangladesh's liberation and independence by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He said the establishment of Bangladesh in 1971 resulted from Bangabandhu's inspiring leadership and unflinching dedication to justice.

Before concluding his address, Faisal said the peoples of Maldives and Bangladesh shared a close bond based on shared customs and cultures, goodwill, and interests in trade and maritime affairs, even before the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1978, and before the two attained independence.
