KATHMANDU, MAY 15
A senior leader of the CPN-UML's youth wing has been found holding a fake citizenship paper, Chitwan district court has revealed.
Yuwantika Rai, Central Committee Member of the National Youth Federation Nepal, forged documents while obtaining her citizenship, the court verdict said. Rai, who is said to be close to UML Chairman KP Oli and leader Subash Chandra Nembang, had scaled Mt Everest last year.
The Rai was accused of submitting false details to obtain Nepali citizenship by decent from District Administration Office, Chitwan. On Falgun 10, 2078, the District Court of Chitwan found Rai guilty and ordered her release on a bail of Rs 1.5 lakh. However, the court did not revoke her citizenship, leaving the matter of her Nepali or non-Nepali status unresolved. In her citizenship application, Rai claimed Chabilal Tamang and Laxmi Tamang of Chitwan as her parents to establish her eligibility for citizenship by descent. However, Chabilal filed a report stating that Yuvantika had acquired fake citizenship as his daughter.
According to court documents, Kishor, Chabilal and Laxmi's son, certified Rai as his sister in the application submitted to the DAO. Laxmi has accused Rai of obtaining a fraudulent citizenship as their daughter and admitted that their son was involved in the case. On the other hand, Yuvantika claimed that she obtained the citizenship for the purpose of going abroad and not with any intention to cause trouble. She also asserted that Laxmi was already aware of her acquisition of citizenship.
Based on the evidence presented, the court ordered Yuvantika's release on bail and send her to jail in the absence of bail, she was sent to jail in accordance with sections 68 and 72 of the National Civil (Code) Act, 2017 (2074).
Rai had obtained a mountaineering certificate from the tourism Department as a Nepali citizenship on Bhadra 6 2078 and successfully climbed Mt Everest as a guide for the Astrek Eco Everest and Sichuan Acme Expedition in 2022.
