Senior citizen clinic opens with at-home memo service

A clinic for senior citizens was inaugurated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Tuesday, with an at-home memo service.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the clinic at Dharumavantha Hospital – IGMH’s CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq said the clinic will see priority to the health of senior citizens and in this trajectory sees the provision of additional services provided to them in ensuring their good health.

Razzaq noted expanding the service for senior citizens across the nation as an important pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He revealed that the Health Ministry has already commenced discussions with educational institutes of neighboring institutions to educate locals on geriatric care.

He said the existence of a path of education on geriatric care in the Maldives would further strengthen the Maldivian healthcare system.

Razzaq said a team from the Ministry is also in discussions with the Maldives National University (MNU) to formulate modes on geriatric care.

Speaking further, Razzan said the current administration had attained various successes in the field of health, particularly noting the commencement of sea ambulance service by Dharumavantha Hospital between Vilimale’ and Male’ and the commencement of efforts to develop a 100-bed tertiary hospital in Vilimale’.

He also noted the inclusion of medical check-ups under Aasandha for senior citizens, which he said was proceeding at a fast pace.
