Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer leaves for India on an official visit --

Maldives, May 08: Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer on Wednesday left for India on an official visit.

During his visit, Zameer is expected to meet with India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to discuss on strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Minister Zameer took to X, stating he was looking forward to his meeting with Dr. Jaishankar to discuss the "deepining and enhancing cooperation" between India and the Maldives for mutual benefit.

While Minister Zameer is expected to visit New Delhi, it is also his first official state visit since the current administration took charge.

In late April this year, the minister had gone on an official visit to Saudi Arabia as well, and attended a special session of the World Economic Forum.

The minister's state visit could also be an initiation of the Maldives government to mend fences with its South Asian neighbor after the relation between the two countries appeared to have muddied following the derogatory remarks made by three Maldivian deputy ministers against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India, which has remained as the strongest tourism source market to the Maldives since the pandemic, had slipped down to sixth rank following this debacle.
