The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has has called for public opinions regarding the revision of the 2nd round of electricity tariff reductions, proposed by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for 2024.
Last month, the CEB, as the national distribution licensee submitted a proposal to the PUSCL recommending a reduction to the electricity tariffs following the boards improved financial performance for the first quarter of this year.
The tariff proposal is currently being reviewed and the related consultation documents can be accessed through the PUCSL website, the commission said through a notice.
Accordingly, the utility regulator invited the inputs of the general public and interested stakeholders in the form of written comments and suggestions.
Opinions are to be submitted via mail or via online platforms by July 8, 2024. The oral session of the public consultation will be held on July 9 in Colombo.
The final decision on the tariff reductions will be taken after the conclusion of the public consultation. The PUCSL is set to announce the decision on July 15, 2024.
The commission plans to hold the stakeholder consultation under the terms of the powers assigned to it in accordance with Section 17 of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka Act No. 35 of 2002.
