The leave of all employees of the power division in Sylhet region has been canceled
Around 12,000 consumers in the Sylhet region have been enduring power outages due to the ongoing flash flood.
Besides, the leave of all workers of power division in the region has been canceled to stand by the common people in any situation.
This information was informed in the notification sent by the power division on Thursday.
According to the notification, due to the ongoing rains in Sylhet and the floods caused by the water coming down from upstream, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) in the Sylhet zone suffered damage to electricity substations, lines, transformers, and electric poles.
All the areas under the distribution zone are more or less flooded. For the sake of safety and to prevent electrical accidents, the fuse of the transformer has been cut in many places and the power supply has been snapped.
Besides, many houses were submerged and the water rose up to metres and electricity connection was cut off to prevent electrical accidents.
Due to these reasons, about 10,000 to 12,000 consumers in the distribution zone are without power.

The total number of consumers of various categories in Sylhet is 561,069 and the maximum electricity demand is 225 MW.
Electricity is supplied through nine substations of 132/33 kV grid in this area.
In Sylhet Division, water entered the premises of 7 substations out of 21 substations of 33/11 KV due to the effect of floods caused by the ongoing rainfall and water coming from upstream, but the substations are operational as they are at a safe distance.
Initially, the financial loss of BPDB is said to be Tk94 lakh.
On the other hand, BREB's total financial loss is believed to be Tk73.13 lakh.
