SATV, Kathmandu, July 17 - Kathmandu Metropolitan City has re-initiated the work to expand the footpath in the new road from Wednesday morning finally receiving the order from the Patan High Court.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City received an interim order today from the joint bench of justices Dhruva Raj Nand and Prakash Kharel of the Patan High Court which resumed the footpath expansion work, that had been halted by the Road Division Office.
The Metropolitan City had initiated the construction work from Jestha 11 after selecting the construction department through a tender process. On Jestha 12, the Division Road Office, Kathmandu, physically intervened. Subsequently, two letters were sent by Division Road Office on the 13th and 16th to halt the work. Then, on Jestha 27, Kathmandu Metropolitan City filed a writ petition in the Patan High Court questioning the letter sent by the Division Office as inappropriate.
In the writ petition, Kathmandu Metropolitan City had requested immediate action and sought an interim order, citing interference by the Road Division Office, which had created obstacles since Jestha 12 of the fiscal year 2080/81. This interference pertained to the implementation of the plan to expand footpaths within Ward No. 22, 23, and 24, encompassing the Newroad area, as per the economic budget of the year 2080/81.
