SATV Kathmandu Oct 10: CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the House of Representatives should be reinstated, stressing the need for national unity and political stability.
Speaking at a programme organized by the UML Bhaktapur District Committee in Gundu on Wednesday, Oli said his party supports the reinstatement of the dissolved parliament and expressed confidence that the Nepali Congress would also back the move.
He added that any plan to hold elections must be carried out with the confidence and participation of all political parties, emphasizing that "the country now needs unity, stability, and a positive environment to ensure peace and prosperity."
UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel echoed Oli's remarks, saying that the current challenges should be addressed through consensus, not internal disputes. UML leaders Dr Rajan Bhattarai and Mahesh Basnet also called for strengthening the party as a unified force to safeguard democracy.
Following the Gen-Z movement on September 8–9, a government led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki was formed, and the House of Representatives was dissolved.
The next parliamentary election has been scheduled for March 5, 2026.
