SATV, Kathmandu, Oct.2-  South Africa’s batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius has broken Chris Gayle’s long-standing record for the highest individual score in men’s T20 cricket.

Playing for the Titans in the CSA T20 Challenge, the 20-year-old Pretorius smashed an unbeaten 188 runs against the Knights. He faced 79 balls and hit 15 fours and 13 sixes.

With this remarkable innings, Pretorius surpassed Gayle’s previous record of 175 runs. Gayle had scored an unbeaten 175 for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors in 2013.

Pretorius reached his half-century in just 24 balls before completing his century in another 16 balls. He is also joint with Aaron Finch and Marcus Stoinis for the fastest 150 in T20 cricket in terms of balls faced.

Pretorius fell just 12 runs short of becoming the first player to score a double century in T20 cricket.

Powered by his explosive innings, the Titans posted 267 for three in 20 overs. It was the second-highest team total in the history of the CSA T20 Challenge. The Titans previously scored 271 for three against the Knights in 2022.

Before Pretorius, Dewald Brevis held the record for the highest individual score in the CSA T20 Challenge, with 162 runs against the Knights in 2022.

This was Pretorius’ first match of the 2026–27 season. In the final two matches of the tri-series involving Zimbabwe and Namibia in September, he scored 94 and 101 runs respectively.
