Govt has adopted zero-tolerance policy against corruption: PM Dahal

KATHMANDU, Feb 11: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against corruption. He also pledged to take action against those involved in incidents of irregularities that took place during any period.

Addressing an event organized in the capital on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Saturday, Prime Minister Dahal said, "The government is committed to taking action against anyone involved in corruption. For this, the CIAA will be equipped with authority."

Prime Minister Dahal further said that the issue of controlling corruption and ensuring good governance has been incorporated in the government's policy priority and common minimum programs. "The government at its best will provide help of any sort to the CIAA in its efforts to freely fulfill its responsibility and against corruption," he said.

Prime Minister Dahal also expressed hope that it would do its work in a free, impartial and fearless way to book those involved in corruption. This will ensure the welfare of the people and development of the country, and help maintain good governance, said Dahal. As the head of the government of the country that is a signatory to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, Dahal also expressed his solidarity with the global anti-corruption efforts.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Dahal also pledged to bring amendments to the Prevention of Corruption Act and the CIAA for the full implementation of the commitments in the Convention. "We will make efforts to get new acts on the subject endorsed from the Parliament within this year," Dahal added.
