The Chamber Court of the Appellate Division on Sunday suspended the High Court bail granted to Sohel Rana, the owner of the Rana Plaza building, in a murder case.

Justice Abu Zafor Siddique of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court gave this order on Sunday.

A hearing is scheduled on May 8 in this regard.

Earlier in the day, the state filed an application seeking suspension of the bail granted to Sohel Rana by the High Court.

The application was sent to the relevant branch of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, said Assistant Attorney General Md Saiful Alam.

On Thursday, the High Court granted bail to Sohel Rana in a murder case filed against him.

Sohel Rana's lawyers said that there was no longer any obstacle to his release.

On April 24, 2013, over 1,100 RMG workers were killed when the 10-storey Rana Plaza building adjacent to the Savar bus stand collapsed. Thousands of other workers were injured.

Five days after this incident, RAB arrested building owner Sohel Rana, as he attempted to flee to India.

Later, a case was filed against him along with the owners of various factories in that building.
