Traders of Bangabazar Shopping Complex, which was burnt to the ground in Tuesday's devastating fire, are now selling clothes from temporary shops on the street.

Since this morning, shop owners have put up at least 50 makeshift shops on both sides of the road near the smouldering remains of the once-iconic market.

This has resulted in severe traffic congestion in the area, our correspondents report from the spot.

After Rakib Hossain's MashaAllah Enterprise was destroyed by the fire, he was forced to move his business to the street.

Despite the setback, Rakib sold Tk 2,000 worth of jeans until 1:00pm today.

"We didn't imagine such a big loss before Eid. Our shop contained garments worth Tk 15 lakh, all of which were destroyed in the fire," said Rubel, another shopkeeper.

Touhidul Islam, another shop owner, said, "I am currently selling the clothes that I was able to salvage from the burned shop.

"I used to sell jeans worth Tk 20–25 thousand every day during the Eid season."

Meanwhile, five days since the devastating fire in the capital's Bangabazar, smoke was still visible at the site.

The smell of burning clothes has spread to surrounding areas adjacent to the market. The work of removing goods from the market is still going on.

Since this morning, traders were seen coming to the Dhaka District Administration's Assistance Information Center in front of Annexco Tower to provide information about their respective shops.
