Sri Lanka emerged victorious over Bangladesh in their tournament opener in the ongoing Asia Cup, marking a significant milestone by setting a new record for their longest winning streak in one-day internationals (ODIs).

This triumph against Bangladesh, a team with whom they have engaged in captivating matches throughout the years, marks Sri Lanka's 11th consecutive ODI win.

This achievement now stands as their longest winning streak in the history of ODIs.

Previously, their lengthiest ODI winning streak was achieved between February 2004 and July 2004, during which they secured victory in 10 consecutive matches. They also enjoyed a successful streak between December 2013 and May 2014, winning 13 matches in a row.

For context, Australia currently holds the record for the lengthiest winning streak in ODIs, having triumphed in 21 consecutive matches from January 2003 to May 2003.

Notably, Sri Lanka's remarkable winning streak is complemented by their prowess in bowling, as they managed to dismiss their opponents for the 11th successive game.

This achievement represents the highest number of consecutive ODI innings in which a team has bowled out their opposition in cricket history. The previous record was held by Australia, who achieved this feat 10 times in a row during the 2009-2010 period.
