President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Monday, has called for a comprehensive international inquiry into the human rights abuses perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinians.

In a statement marking the anniversary of the day the Maldives embraced Islam, President Solih reflected on the imminent humanitarian crisis that presently afflicts in Gaza following Israeli military aggression against the residents of the Gaza Strip.

Condemning Israel’s act, he emphasized that it was the sacred responsibility of the entire Islamic Ummah to collectively work towards alleviating the suffering of oppressed Muslims globally. The president said for such an effort to be successful, Muslim communities must strengthen their fraternal ties, bridge divisions, and stand united as a single Ummah.

In his statement, President Solih also underscored the importance of individual and collective efforts to embed social and moral values advocated by Islam, attributing it as a crucial element to celebrating the day the Maldives embraced Islam.

He said enduring faith has been a strong foundation for the Maldivian people to unite and build the nation since embracing Islam.

Therewith, he called to instill Islamic principles and nationalistic values in younger generations to foster peace and harmony among Maldivians, values that are highly esteemed in Islam.

Maldives commemorates the day the nation embraced Islam annually on the 2nd of Rabiʽ al-Akhir as per the Islamic Calendar.
