Colombo, Nov 28- The Israeli government authorities have categorically informed Sri Lanka that there should not be any middle involvement for additional charges in the process of recruitment of Sri Lankan job seekers as caregivers to work in Israel, Daily Mirror learns.

Earlier, the Daily Mirror reported about jobseekers paying extra through various channels to secure jobs.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel categorically informed the Labour and Foreign Employment Ministry way back in May this year in this regard. During talks, Ms. Inbal Mashash who is the Director of the Foreign Workers’ Administration Association, Population and Immigration Border Authority (PIBA) stressed this point to be considered when recruiting people for 2,000 slots offered to Sri Lanka as a government-to-government agreement.

The embassy communicated the position of Israel’s PIBA to the Ministry in writing. Originally, 500 people were supposed to be recruited as part of the pilot project to work as caregivers in Israel.

Israel has also requested Sri Lanka to expedite the recruitment process because of competition from the Central Asian countries and India to send their workers.
