Medical superintendent Basyal being treated in ICU, hospital services stopped
KATHMANDU, Nov 29: After the death of a postpartum mother who was being treated at the Siddhartha Children and Women Hospital (AMDA hospital), Butwal, the relatives of the deceased resorted to attacking the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Rajendra Basyal.
The doctor was seriously injured in the attack and is currently being treated in the ICU room of the Lumbini Provincial Hospital.
On Tuesday, a dispute escalated at the hospital, where 32-year-old Bhawani Raskoti, from Thulo Lumpek of Gulmi who had just given birth to her second child, passed away. Following her death, the relatives of the deceased engaged in a confrontation with Dr Basyal.
According to the hospital management, the condition of the newborn baby is normal.
Assistant Chief District Officer of Rupandehi Ramchandra Aryal said that the situation is now under control in terms of peace and security and preparations are being made to find a solution through discussion. "Today we have held a discussion," he said, "We will try to find a solution through dialogue."
After the incident, the patients coming to the hospital were turned away from the hospital gate. According to the hospital administration, all work is stopped except for attending the patients already admitted to the hospital. The police have arrested some of the people involved in the incident and started an investigation.
