277 individuals arrested for indiscriminate smearing of color to others on Holi
KATHMANDU, March 25: Police have taken action against 664 vehicles violating traffic rules on Holi.
The team of District Police Range, Kathmandu has seized 664 vehicles violating traffic rules. According to District Police Range, Kathmandu, the seized vehicles include 649 four-wheelers and 15 two-wheelers.
According to the police, the vehicles were taken into custody for those who were driving the vehicle illegally, not carrying the vehicle documents, driving without wearing a helmet, who were driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of drugs.
The police had tightened the security arrangements in the valley to ensure the safety of Fagu Purnima i.e. Holi festival.
A total of 3,000 plainclothes policemen were deployed for traffic checking and surveillance was done by drones.
Furthermore, the police have arrested 277 people on charges of indiscriminate smearing of color to others and rioting during the celebration of Holi.
Among those arrested are 262 men and 15 women, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupendra Khatri, Chief of District Police Range.
“Looking at the condition of those arrested, some of them have been handed over to their families and a case will be filed against some of them," he said.
