SATV Kathmandu July 16: The District Administration Office, Kavrepalanchok, has decided to restrict the movement of both public and private vehicles along the BP Highway from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am daily, starting from mid-July to mid-August, 2025.

The office said that the decision was taken to minimise risks from monsoon-related disasters like floods and landslides and more importantly, to ensure passengers’ safety and security.

According to Chief District Officer Umesh Kumar Dhakal, the decision was made by a meeting of the District Security Committee held 

on Tuesday. 

The restriction applies to vehicles travelling from Kavrebhanjyang to Sindhuli via Bhakundebesi. He clarified that the ban is temporarily applicable to passenger and private vehicles, while emergency and cargo transport vehicles are exempt from this rule.

“In recent days, mudslides triggered by rain have blocked the highway for hours. With the night-time vehicular restrictions, there have been no casualties so far. We’ve decided to extend the ban from 5:00 pm onward to prevent potential harm to passengers and vehicles,” said CDO Dhakal.

Previously, the District Administration Office had imposed a restriction on vehicular movement from 6:30 pm to 5:00 am, starting from June 20.

In September last year, floods in the Rosi River caused partial damage to the highway from Kavrebhanjyang to Katunje Besi, and severe damage to a 29-kilometre stretch from Katunje to Boksikuna, near the Sindhuli border. Even with mild rainfall, mudslides block the road at several points, and in some places, swollen streams have cut across the road, causing lengthy traffic disruptions and hardship for travellers. This prompted the administration to impose night-time travel restrictions.
