Body of Bipin Joshi being brought home today

SATV Kathmandu Oct 20: The body of Bipin Joshi, who was killed in Israel, is being brought to Nepal today.

According to sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his body is being brought to Kathmandu on a Fly Dubai flight. The aircraft is scheduled to land at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu this afternoon.

The Prime Minister, ministers, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are also expected to attend a tribute ceremony in his honor.

Bipin Joshi, a resident of Kanchanpur, had gone to Israel for his studies. He was taken hostage during the Hamas attack on the Kibbutz area on October 7, 2023. His whereabouts had remained unknown until October 13 this year, when Israeli authorities confirmed his death.

Following the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, the militant group handed over a body said to be Joshi’s to the Israeli army during the exchange of hostages. DNA tests confirmed that the body indeed belonged to Joshi.

Forensic examinations indicated that he had died at the time of the abduction, according to officials at the Nepali Embassy in Israel.

Before being repatriated to Nepal, a tribute ceremony was held for him on Sunday at the memorial of Katiba 8, Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. His coffin was draped with the Nepali national flag.
