
SATV, Kathmandu, May 11: A Turkish Airlines aircraft (flight no TK726) from Istanbul, Turkey to Kathmandu, caught fire while landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport this morning.
According to TIA Security Office Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Silwal, the plane caught fire while landing. “This morning, a tire of the aircraft caught fire while landing. The fire was extinguished with the help of fire engines. The situation is under control now,” he said. “The runway has been closed for some time for inspection.”
According to Silwal, there were 273 passengers and 11 crew members on board the plane. All passengers were safely evacuated. A technical inspection is currently underway to understand the cause of the fire and its impact on the aircraft. (RSS)
