
SATV, Kathmandu, May 28: A musical programme called Paleti, which is held on the last Friday of every English month at Nepalaya’s ‘R’ Sala, is set to present songs written by well-known lyricist Shiva Shankar Thapa this coming Friday.
Paleti is a small-scale musical event that has been running for the past 21 years.
Thapa is a lyricist who has been living and working in Birtamod, Jhapa for a long time.
Many of his songs have been composed and performed by singer and musician Deep Shrestha. Popular songs include ‘Bhanthi Meri Uni’, ‘Bidhuwale Sindurko Rahar,’ ‘Ma Ta Aakashako Jun Hu’, and ‘Mero Aakhama Haradam.’
Other popular works written by Thapa include ‘Hawasanga Bhagu Bhanchha,’ ‘Mero Rahar Byujhiera’, and ‘Kehi Lyuna Sakina.’
These have been composed by Subarna Limbu and Prakash Gurung.
Musician Aabhas has also recently collaborated with Thapa.
A new song, ‘Ma Ta Aksharko Manchhe Hu Shirdhekhi Pada Ya Pau Dekhi Pada,’ will be performed on stage for the first time at Paleti.
Songs, composed by Balram Samal, Yubaraj Portel, and Mani Bardewa, will also be crooned in the event.
This year’s Paleti will be performed by vocalists Abhigya Ghimire and Rupak Chaudhary.
Programme coordinator Aabhas said he has been a fan of Thapa’s lyrics since childhood and had worked with him musically about three decades ago. He said it is a pleasure to revive that connection through Paleti.
