SATV, Kathmandu, July. 31 - The Food Management and Trading Company Limited (FMTC) has purchased indigenous crops worth Rs. 6.74 million from Humla.

The crops were purchased from farmers in three rural municipalities —Simkot, Kharpunath and Sarkegad — under an agreement aimed at conserving, promoting and marketing indigenous crops.

According to Krishna Thapa Magar, chief of FMTC' Humla branch, indigenous crops worth Rs. 6.74 million were purchased from farmers in the three local levels in the last fiscal year 2025/26.

A total of 407 quintals of six varieties of local crops were purchased and paid the farmers immediately. Thapa Magar said the company has been purchasing the crops under its corporate social responsibility programme to promote, market and preserve Humla's indigenous agricultural products.

Of the total crops purchased, 239 quintals have already been sent to Kathmandu from the company's Humla branch, while preparations are underway to transport the remaining 168 quintals.

The crops purchased from farmers include 239 quintals of beans, eight quintals of kaguno rice, 45 quintals of chino rice, 65 quintals of uwa, 30 quintals of buckwheat and 10 quintals of millet. Except for chino and kaguno, all the other crops are processed in Kathmandu.

The company has been purchasing local cops from Humla for the past three fiscal years. In the fiscal year 2024/25, it purchased 110 quintals of local crops and transported them to Kathmandu. The company has been increasing the volume of local crops it purchases from Humla each year.
