SATV, Kathmandu, October. 9- A Chinese medical team has launched a two-day health camp at the Civil Service Hospital in Minbhawan, Kathmandu, offering medical examinations, diagnoses, treatment consultations and expert advice to patients. The camp will run through Saturday.

The camp brings together specialists from 12 medical disciplines, including hematology, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, gastrointestinal surgery, urology, gynecology, orthopedics, anesthesiology, traditional Chinese medicine, radiation oncology, dentistry and thoracic surgery.

Organized to make specialized medical services accessible at a single location, the camp provides patients with an opportunity to consult experts about complex health conditions, receive medical assessments and explore appropriate treatment options.

Huang Chen, head of China's 17th medical team in Nepal, said the role of Chinese medical professionals in Nepal extends beyond providing routine services at hospitals. According to Huang, the team has been conducting free health camps in Kathmandu, Chitwan, Pokhara and various remote areas of the country.

The team also organizes annual health camps for Chinese nationals living in Nepal and employees of Chinese companies, contributing to their health and well-being.

“Besides providing basic medical services, we have conducted free health camp programs in Kathmandu, Chitwan, Pokhara and many remote areas. We have also organized annual health camps for Chinese nationals and Chinese companies in Nepal, making a contribution to safeguarding their health,” Huang said.

In addition to serving Nepali citizens, the Chinese medical team has been contributing to the healthcare of the Chinese community living in Nepal.

Healthcare cooperation between Nepal and China has a long history. The Civil Service Hospital in Kathmandu was established with Chinese assistance. Initially intended to provide quality healthcare to government employees and their families, the hospital has since expanded its services to the general public.

China has also been sending medical teams to the B.P. Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Chitwan since 1999. The program, which involves sending doctors and healthcare professionals from China's Hebei Province, has been an important part of bilateral cooperation in cancer treatment.

The establishment of hospitals, deployment of specialist medical professionals and continued collaboration in healthcare have helped extend Nepal-China relations into the medical sector.

The significance of the health camp extends beyond immediate medical examinations and treatment consultations. With specialists from multiple disciplines available at one location, patients can receive assessments of complex health conditions, learn about possible treatment options and obtain guidance on further medical care when necessary.

In a country like Nepal, where access to every type of specialized medical service is not uniform across hospitals and regions, such initiatives provide patients with valuable opportunities to consult specialist doctors.

The two-day health camp is another example of ongoing Nepal-China cooperation in healthcare, aimed at improving access to specialized medical expertise and strengthening medical ties between the two countries.
