Bhutan Archery Federation (BAF) has selected four archers in the recurve category to represent the country in the upcoming Asian Games in China.

Of the four archers, two are women

They were chosen on May 8 among the national players at the Langjophakha archery range in Thimphu after undergoing a competitive selection process.

Two archers are on standby.

Officials said that they might also get a chance based on the availability of the seats.

A selected player, Kinley Tshering, said that with the relaxation of the sporting activities in the country, archery training is on track today. “We are paractising the whole day. Due to the pandemic, international archery tournaments were suspended until now. Due to this, we lack exposure. However, we will give our best in the upcoming competition.”

Archery coach at the BAF, Yeshi Dema, said that the selected archers would undergo intense training from this week.

So far, Bhutan could not bring home medals in the recurve category from the Asian Games.

One of the standby candidates, Sonam Choden, said she was expecting a chance in the Asian Games. “In the team, three archers each from both the genders are required.”

During the selection, Sonam Choden fulfilled the criteria only in the third set with 612 points.
