KATHMANDU, Feb 15: The District Government Attorney Office has decided that filing a complaint against the chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rabi Lamichhane,  is not necessary.

Yuvraj Paudel (Safal) of Sindhuli had filed a complaint at the district police complex in Kathmandu, saying that Lamichhane had obtained his passport by giving false information and based on his revoked citizenship. But the police refused to register a case over this issue as the Supreme Court is yet to issue the full text of its verdict on Lamichhane’s citizenship case.

After that, Paudel submitted a petition to the District Government Attorney's Office saying that the police had refused to file his complaint. The District Government Attorney Office has decided to put the complaint on hold, saying that there is no need to do anything about it, as it has received information that an investigation into the matter by the District Police Office is underway.

"In this regard, an investigation has been started into the complaint lodged at the District Police Office, Kathmandu. After the investigation, nothing more needs to be done on the complaint received here," Achyut Mani Neupane, chief of the District Government Attorney Office, Kathmandu, said.

The District Government Attorney Office had previously requested details from the District Administration Office (DAO) Kathmandu, Department of Passport and Immigration regarding Lamichhane's passport. The Government Attorney Office said that there was no response from other agencies except the DAO. The district administration office said that Rabi Lamichhane had written a reply that the records of citizenship were found, a government lawyer said.

A few months ago, the complaint against Lamichhane's passport was filed at the Ministry of Home Affairs and reached the District Police Office in Kathmandu via the DAO. According to the Government Attorney Office, it was found that the district police office had sought information from the immigration department, Department of Passport and other agencies during its investigation.

Now, only after completing the police investigation and submission of the report, the District Government Attorney Office is said to conduct a study and take further decisions on the matter.
